パッションフルーツの花が咲きました (2020年秋)
秋に咲く花というと何を思い浮かべるでしょうか？
「パッションフルーツ」と答える人は少ないと思うのですが、
私はパッションフルーツをここ数年育てているせいか、コスモス、
正確には、初夏に咲いて実をつけた後、秋「にも」咲くのです。
今年は４月が例年より寒くて鉢を外に出すのが遅れたり、
6月、7月に雨の日が多かったりしたせいで日照不足になり、
花芽があまりつかなかったのではないかと思います。
また、せっかく出来た花芽が暑さのせいで蕾になりませんでした。
そして９月になって涼しくなってきた先週、今年初めて花が咲きました🌸🎉
計ったところ、花の直径 約9.5cm、蕾の長さ4cm。
蕾がまだ大きくないので、2つ目が咲くのはまだ先だと思っていたら、
３日後には咲いていたみたいです。気づいたら萎れていました😓
なぜすぐ気がつかなかったかというと、雨で寒くて庭の様子を見る気に
なれなかったし（← 言い訳）、パッションフルーツの花は、
1つにつき１日しか咲かないのです（← これは本当！）。
秋に咲いた花に実をつけても、来年咲く花の数が少なくなってしまうそうなので
今回は人口受粉をしませんでした。
来年は初夏に花を咲かせて実を収穫できるよう、頑張ります🙂👍

Passion fruit bloomed. (autumn in year 2020)
What do you think of if you hear autumn flower? I think the people who answer
“passion fruit” are few, but I think of them after cosmos and cluster amaryllis
as I have grown them for several years. Accurately, they bloom “in autumn, too”
after they bear fruits.
I was late to put the passion fruit pots outside due to colder weather in April
compared to usual years and we had many rainy days in June and July.
As a result, they couldn’t form floral buds very much because they weren’t exposed by sunlight enough. Even though they formed flower buds, hotness made them withered
before they become big.
Then, last week in September when it started to be cool, the first flower in this year
bloomed 🌸🎉
I found the diameter of the flower was about 9.5 centi-meter (24 inch) and the
length of the bud was 4 centi-meter (10 inch). I thought it would not bloom
very soon, but it seems to have bloomed after three days. By the time I noticed it, it already withered 😓
The reason why I didn’t notice it soon is that I didn’t feel like seeing my garden
due to rain and coldness (← excuse), and each flower of passion fruit bloom
only one day (← This is true!).
I didn’t do artificial pollination because I heard that they will reduce the number of the fruits next season if they grow to fruits from flowers which bloom in autumn.
I will work towards making them bloom in early summer and picking the fruits
next year🙂👍
