ブロッコリー栽培記録（種まきから98日目　追肥２回目）

　ブロッコリーがすっかり大きくなりました。葉が力士の手ぐらいの大きさになり、

防虫ネットに当たるようになったので、ネットは外してあります。

そして追肥が必要になりました。

来年の春、または秋にブロッコリーを育てる方の参考のために、

ブロッコリーの追肥のスケジュールと、私の栽培記録を以下に記します。

追肥１回目： 植え付けから２週間後　10月18日

追肥２回目： 本葉15枚の頃　　　　 11月20日（種まきから98日目）←　今回

頂花蕾（ちょうからい = 頂上に出てくる花の蕾、つまりブロッコリーの食べる部分）が

出た後に脇から出てくる花蕾を収穫したい場合は、

追肥３回目：　頂花蕾の収穫後　←　次回　12月末頃？

★ 頂花蕾が出来てからの追肥は、花茎空洞症や、蕾の質が悪くなるのでしないこと。

種まきから98日目　　本葉15枚

My broccoli became fully big.  As the leaves have grown to almost same size of sumo-wrestler’s hand and they reached the net, I have already removed the net for protecting from insects.  And also, I need to fertilize additionally.

 For the people who will start grow broccoli next autumn or spring, I’ll write the schedule of additional fertilization schedule and my record.

the 1st additional manure:  after 2 weeks from setting in the planter  Oct. 18

the 2^nd additional manure:  the time when they have fifteen main leaves

                           Nov. 20 (the 98^th day from planting the seeds) ←　this time

In the case you want to pick the flower bud from lateral branch after they have top flower bud,

the 3rd additional manure:  the time after you pick the top flower bud ←　next time, end of Dec.？

★ Don’t fertilize additionally after they have the top flower bud in order not to make the scape ventricular and not to make the bud’s quality bad.  　by HP of Yamane farm★

土寄せ

追肥をするのと同時に、土寄せという、根元に土を寄せかける作業をしました。

株が倒れるのを防ぐのが目的で、株が安定することによって根の張りもよくなります。

また、追肥と一緒にやると、肥料が流れ出るのが防げるそうです。

I did earthing up, the work which you gather the soil to the base at the same time.

Its purpose is to avoid that the plant fall and stabilization of the plant makes growth of the root good.  And also, you can prevent the fertilizer flow off if you do it at the same time you manure additionally.

TOEICに出る園芸用語

今回の作業で使った「肥料」ですが、TOEICによく出る単語だということを数年前に知りました。そこで、TOEICによく出ると言われている単語の中で園芸用語はないか

問題集などで調べてみたので、幾つか紹介します。

１．まずは前述の「肥料」です。英語で「fertilizer」と言います。

関連語 「fertile」も出るようです。

「fertile」は「（土地が）肥えた、豊作をもたらす」という意味の形容詞。

最初に「fertile」を覚え、一緒に動詞の「fertilize」(他動詞の場合：～を肥やす、

～の発達を促す)を覚えておけば、「fertilizer」の意味がとっさに思い出せなくても、

語尾の「- er（～する人、物）から、「fertilizeする人または物」から「肥料」

という意味を導き出せていいのではないかと思います。

2．「nursery」　 園芸店　

「保育園、託児所」という意味の単語としても出るようです。

4．「agriculture」  農業

   形容詞　「aguricultural」  農業の

5．「crop」  作物、収穫量
